Why are prices shown in dollars first?
Because Lebanon’s gold market is effectively dollarised: jewellers post their prices in US dollars and settle in cash dollars or the pound equivalent at the day’s rate. Showing USD first, with pounds converted at the daily rate alongside, mirrors exactly how you will see prices in Beirut shops.
What is the Lebanese gold lira and what does it cost?
The gold lira is Lebanon’s classic savings coin: 8 grams of 21K gold. Its price is simply eight times the 21K gram price — about $944.24 (roughly 84,910,700 pounds) when this page was built. Half liras (4 g) and quarter liras (2 g) also circulate. Our Arabic gold-lira page tracks it in detail.
How are the pound prices calculated?
We convert the world spot price at the day’s USD/LBP exchange rate from the currency feeds (about 89,925 pounds per dollar when this page was built). The rate has tracked the market level around 89,500 since early 2024, but it can still move — which is why pound prices change with both world gold and the exchange rate.
Does the price include making charges or taxes?
