How the gold rate in Dubai is calculated
The gold rate in Dubai is not decided by individual shops — it comes from the world market. The international price of one troy ounce of gold (31.1035 grams) in US dollars is divided by 31.1035 to get the price of one gram of pure 24 carat gold, multiplied by the carat ratio (for example 22/24 for 22 carat), and converted at the fixed rate of 1 USD = 3.6725 AED, because the UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar. On top of this gold value, jewellery shops add their making charges, plus 5% VAT charged on the full invoice value (gold plus making charges). Investment-grade gold bars of 99% purity or higher are zero-rated for VAT in the UAE.
The Dubai official retail rate — and why it can differ from the price here
Dubai has one thing most gold markets do not: an official recommended retail rate. It is published by the Dubai Jewellery Group, the trade body that represents Dubai’s gold and jewellery businesses, and it is updated during the day — typically in the morning, afternoon and evening. The rate boards you see in the Gold Souk in Deira and in jewellery shops across Dubai usually follow this official rate. The prices on this page are worked out directly from the international spot gold price and refresh automatically about every 30 minutes, so a small difference between the two is completely normal. Both follow the same world price — think of the official rate as the city’s board rate for the day, and this page as the live world-market view.
22 carat gold and the tola — a guide for expats
Most gold jewellery bought by South Asian expats in Dubai is 22 carat (916) — the standard for Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi jewellery — while Arab buyers often choose 21 carat, and 24 carat is bought as bars and coins for investment. If you are used to prices per tola back home, one tola equals exactly 11.6638 grams, and the per-tola table above converts today’s Dubai rate into that unit for 24, 22 and 21 carat. Many Dubai buyers also think in 10-gram units, especially for 22 carat, so check the per-gram rate and multiply by ten before you compare a shop’s quote.
Dubai gold price in Indian rupees
A large share of Dubai’s gold buyers are Indian expats and visitors, so the question behind almost every purchase is: what does this cost me in rupees? That is why the big UAE news sites run dedicated dirham-to-rupee converter pages next to their gold rates. Here is how the conversion works, with a clearly labelled example. Example only: at a sample exchange rate of 1 AED = 26.27 INR (the rate shown in Khaleej Times’ live exchange table on 10 October 2026 — the real rate changes every day, so always check today’s), one gram of 22 carat gold at a sample price of 432.94 AED works out to about ₹11,373, and 10 grams of 22 carat gold (4,329.40 AED in gold value) works out to about ₹113,733 — before making charges and VAT. To repeat this with real numbers, take the live per-gram rate from the tables above and multiply it by today’s actual AED-to-INR exchange rate.
A quick purchase example, using the same sample rates: 10 grams of 22 carat jewellery at 432.94 AED per gram comes to 4,329.40 AED in gold value. If the shop’s making charges were 25 AED per gram (250 AED — an example figure; actual charges vary a lot by shop and design), plus 5% VAT on the full amount (228.97 AED), the total would be 4,808.37 AED. Repeat the same maths with the live tables above for today’s real gold rate in Dubai.

Frequently asked questions
What is the gold price in Dubai today?
Today’s gold price in Dubai is shown at the top of this page and updates automatically about every 30 minutes: the answer block lists the current price per gram for 24, 22, 21 and 18 carat gold in UAE dirhams and US dollars, plus the price per tola and per ounce. Gold trades around the clock on world markets, so the Dubai rate can change several times a day.
How much is 1 tola of gold in Dubai?
One tola equals 11.6638 grams. The per-tola table on this page shows the live price of 1 tola for 24, 22 and 21 carat gold in dirhams — it is simply the per-gram rate multiplied by 11.6638, calculated from the unrounded rate. The tola is the unit many South Asian buyers are used to from back home, while Dubai shops price by the gram.
Why is the official Dubai gold rate different from the price on this page?
Dubai’s gold trade publishes a recommended retail rate through the Dubai Jewellery Group, and the rate boards in the Gold Souk and jewellery shops across Dubai usually follow it. That rate is updated during the day. The prices on this page are calculated directly from the international spot gold price and refresh automatically, so a small difference between the two is normal — both follow the same world price.
Is gold cheaper in Dubai than in India?
The gold itself costs the same worldwide, because it is priced on one world market. The final jewellery bill is often lower in Dubai, though: making charges are competitive, the UAE’s 5% VAT rate is modest, and investment bars of 99% purity or more are zero-rated — while gold bought in India also carries import duty and GST. This is why many visitors and expats buy their gold in Dubai.
What is today’s 22 carat gold rate in Dubai?
The tables at the top of this page show today’s 22 carat gold rate in Dubai per gram, per 10 grams and per tola, in dirhams and dollars. 22 carat (916) is the most popular purity for South Asian jewellery, and many buyers in Dubai think in 10-gram units. Shop prices add making charges on top of this rate, plus 5% VAT on the full invoice value.
